Extra-curricular Activities

Extended Services: Before and After School
We try to provide as many opportunities as possible for children to extend their learning outside normal school hours. Although these all take place on our premises, most activities are organised by private tutors. Consequently, payment for tuition is made directly to them, usually on a termly basis.

Music tuition
In addition to class music lessons, children have the opportunity to learn to play musical instruments. Within Key Stage 2 there is an opportunity to learn to play the recorder and Keyboard Club and Rock School (drums & electric guitars) are also available as extra curricular activities.  Tuition for other music lessons is provided by independent tutors.

Choir
The school choir is open to all children in Key Stage 2. Rehearsals usually take place once a week at the end of the school day and the emphasis is on singing for enjoyment. The choir performs in school and at various functions locally during the year.

Drama
The drama club is a recent addition to our activities after school. Children enjoy working together on a variety of themes.

Environment Club
Our older children are able to join the Environment which helps them develop an understanding of caring for their school and the wider environment.

Representatives from across the school form part of the Eco Committee.

Funky Fit
Funky Fit provides a variety of activities including sports, party and team games, aerobic, cardiovascular and toning exercises in a fun environment. This club is open to Key Stage 1 children.

Gymnastics
Gymnastics tuition is available for children in both key stages on Wednesdays after school. Children have the opportunity to work towards recognised awards.

Let’s Get Cooking
Let’s Get Cooking is a national network of cooking clubs for children, families and their communities across England. The aim is that participants who learn a new healthy eating skill through Let’s Get Cooking will replicate that skill at home and will increase their intake of nutritionally healthy food. This club is for children in Years 5 and 6 on a rota basis.

Sports
As we have a specialist P.E. teacher in school who teaches P.E. throughout the school, we are able to provide many opportunities for additional sport tuition for Key Stage 2 children after school with little extra cost to parents. Many children represent the school in a variety of sports during the year including football, tag rugby, cricket, basket ball, athletics and new age kurling. Other sporting activities are provided by external providers and may incur a charge.

Street Dance/Smart Moves
Children in both Key Stages have the opportunity to learn different routines to popular music. The emphasis is on exercise and dancing for enjoyment.
