Snacks

Children may bring a healthy, mid morning snack and a drink for playtime. As we have a number of children with severe nut allergies, please do not send any nuts, or products containing nuts such as Nutella, into school. All snacks should be labelled clearly with your child’s name. We encourage children to eat fruit. All children in Foundation and Key Stage 1 classes receive a free piece of fruit each day. Children may bring an alternative healthy snack. A list of recommended snacks is available from the Office. Please do not send sweets or chocolate bars for snacks. All snacks should be brought into the classroom at registration. There are separate trays for storage.

Drinks

Children are encouraged to drink plenty throughout the day, especially water. Please send water or a diluted drink for your child in a named container. The children may refill their containers with water during the day. Milk is also available during the morning. The milk scheme is managed by a company called ‘COOL MILK’. School milk is free for all children under 5 and/or registered for free school meals and is subsidised for other pupils. You can register your child at www.coolmilk.com

Lunches

Healthy, hot meals are served daily. The School Food Support Service provides a cafeteria service for lunches. Meals can be ordered each morning and payment must be made in advance by your ParentPay account.

Alternatively, your child may bring his/her own healthy, packed lunch in a plastic container. As many children bring similar boxes, please ensure that your child’s full name is displayed on the outside. Please do not send sweets, chocolate, glass bottles, cans, fizzy or hot drinks. Water is available for all children without a drink.

Although the school provides trolleys to store the lunch boxes, unfortunately, we cannot guarantee ideal temperatures.

School meals are cooked on site.

We have our own school kitchen at Badgerbrook and the catering team are provided by Leicestershire Traded Services – Catering. Our school chef and her team provide some great tasty and nutritious delights for the pupils and staff of Badgerbrook.

You can find details of our School Meals Payment policy on the 'School policies' page.

Families of children and young people in full-time education at any school maintained by Leicestershire County Council may be entitled to claim free school meals, providing they receive a qualifying benefit. Please follow the link below for more information and an application form.

Please use the free school meals link for more information and the free school meals application if you wish to apply.

Currently all Infant children are eligible for Universal Free School Meals. School meals are ordered by the children in class each morning but no payment is required. However it is still important for parents to register their child’s eligibility for free school meals if they are in receipt of a qualifying benefit. This will ensure the school will be in a position to obtain further funding from central government to provide additional support to your child. This funding is also referred to as Pupil Premium.

The easiest and quickest way to check your eligibility and register is to contact LTS Catering Services (see clink).

If you have further questions, please contact LTS Catering Services on 0116 305 5000 or email FreeSchoolmeals@leics.gov.uk
